Free RIM Playbook Appears At Local Office
That’s right – a free Playbook magically showed up at my office yesterday! Over the next few months you’re going to get lots of Playbook vs iPad content from me. All I need you to answer is:
“What I want to know about the Playbook is _____________”
(and there is a rumour that I’m shooting a Playbook vs iPad vs Dell Streak video soon!)
Full Disclosure
Like the title said, RIM gave me a (free) Blackberry Playbook tablet (16gb) to try and review (and keep).
Conditions of this free Playbook were:
a) make clear to everyone that RIM gave this to me for free (that’s what you’re reading now!)
b) I have to give an honest opinion, not one that is dictated by the gift of free hardware.
As I told RIM, “sign me up!”
Even more disclosure, I live in Waterloo, Ontario Canada, home of RIM – and our economy is heavily influenced by RIM, although it’s not the only engine of growth here by far.
Most people locally are “Crackberry addicts,” and the matching 9780s that my wife & I sport probably get us access to that club.
I have an iPad (first gen) that I bought with my own money like a sucker (just kidding, but I did buy it, about a year ago) that I’ve used daily since buying it. I use the iPad mostly during the day for business, and my wife uses it at home, mostly for recreation.
First Impressions of the Playbook
I noticed this afternoon that my iPad is still sitting in the box my Playbook came in. It hasn’t been turned on since the Playbook came into my life
I really like the feel of the Playbook – its a great size (about half the size of the iPad), and the operating system (OS) is hands down better than the iPad’s OS.
It feels natural to hold it in one hand when reading, whereas my iPad feels to cumbersome when I do that.
After 2 days on a Playbook, what I’m most struck by is how the iPad doesn’t really multi task. If you think it does, let me show you how a Playbook multi tasks!
I’m still getting settled in re: apps, but so far I’ve figured out how to easily access my Dropbox account (BlueBox for Playbook, and it’s free) which is a biggie for me in business – I need my files wherever I am!
Like most Playbook users I’ve spoken to, I’m eagerly awaiting more apps. Kindle, Evernote, and a PDF editor spring to mind. When Android Apps are on the Playbook, and when the RIM App Store is further developed, I think Apple will be in *big* trouble.
Take it for what its worth – full review and many more thoughts coming soon!
Real Estate and the Playbook
S0….. What do you want to know?? Leave questions in the comments below, and I’ll answer them as best I can (and if I don’t know the answer, I’ll get #teamBlackBerry to find out!)
